Yes. The actual heel seems to be about 4" because you have the 6" visual heel and about 1.5 to 2" platform under the ball of the foot.

I like the spider web detail! I also like the the heels have solid heft, not those spindly little stillettos that CRY OUT "Break my fucking ankle! Please!"

Officials fear bath salts are growing drug problem

01:59 Jan 23 2011
Times Read: 767

For the Rat. Oh my lord...

FULTON, Miss. (AP) — When Neil Brown got high on bath salts, he took his skinning knife and slit his face and stomach repeatedly. Brown survived, but authorities say others haven't been so lucky after snorting, injecting or smoking powders with such innocuous-sounding names as Ivory Wave, Red Dove and Vanilla Sky.

Some say the effects of the powders are as powerful as abusing methamphetamine. Increasingly, law enforcement agents and poison control centers say the bath salts with complex chemical names are an emerging menace in several U.S. states where authorities talk of banning their sale.

From the Deep South to California, emergency calls are being reported over exposure to the stimulants the powders often contain: mephedrone and methylenedioxypyrovalerone, also known as MDPV.

Sold under such names as Ivory Wave, Bliss, White Lightning and Hurricane Charlie, the chemicals can cause hallucinations, paranoia, rapid heart rates and suicidal thoughts, authorities say. The chemicals are in bath salts and even plant foods that are sold legally at convenience stores and on the Internet. However, they aren't necessarily being used for the purposes on the label.

Mississippi lawmakers this week began considering a proposal to ban the sale of the powders, and a similar step is being sought in Kentucky. In Louisiana, the bath salts were outlawed by an emergency order after the state's poison center received more than 125 calls in the last three months of 2010 involving exposure to the chemicals.

In Brown's case, he said he had tried every drug from heroin to crack and was so shaken by terrifying hallucinations that he wrote one Mississippi paper urging people to stay away from the bath salts.

"I couldn't tell you why I did it," Brown said, pointing to his scars. "The psychological effects are still there."

While Brown survived, sheriff's authorities in one Mississippi county say they believe one woman overdosed on bath salts there. In southern Louisiana, the family of a 21-year-old man says he cut his throat and ended his life with a gunshot. Authorities are investigating whether a man charged with capital murder in the December death of a Tippah County, Miss., sheriff's deputy was under the influence of the bath salts.

The stimulants aren't regulated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, but are facing federal scrutiny. Law officers say some of the substances are being shipped from Europe, but origins are still unclear.

Gary Boggs, an executive assistant at the DEA, said there's a lengthy process to restrict these types of designer chemicals, including reviewing the abuse data. But it's a process that can take years.

Dr. Mark Ryan, director of Louisiana's poison control center, said he thinks state bans on the chemicals can be effective. He said calls about the salts have dropped sharply since Louisiana banned their sale in January.

Ryan said cathinone, the parent substance of the drugs, comes from a plant grown in Africa and is regulated. He said MDPV and mephedrone are made in a lab, and they aren't regulated because they're not marketed for human consumption. The stimulants affect neurotransmitters in the brain, he said.

"It causes intense cravings for it. They'll binge on it three or four days before they show up in an ER. Even though it's a horrible trip, they want to do it again and again," Ryan said.

Ryan said at least 25 states have received calls about exposure, including Nevada and California. He said Louisiana leads with the greatest number of cases at 165, or 48 percent of the U.S. total, followed by Florida with at least 38 calls to its poison center.

Dr. Rick Gellar, medical director for the California Poison Control System, said the first call about the substances came in Oct. 5, and a handful of calls have followed since. But he warned: "The only way this won't become a problem in California is if federal regulatory agencies get ahead of the curve. This is a brand new thing."

In the Midwest, the Missouri Poison Center at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center received at least 12 calls in the first two weeks of January about teenagers and young adults abusing such chemicals, said Julie Weber, the center's director. The center received eight calls about the powders all of last year.

Dr. Richard Sanders, a general practitioner working in Covington, La., said his son, Dickie, snorted some of the bath salts and endured three days of intermittent delirium. Dickie Sanders missed major arteries when he cut his throat. As he continued to have visions, his physician father tried to calm him. But the elder Sanders said that as he slept, his son went into another room and shot himself.

"If you could see the contortions on his face. It just made him crazy," said Sanders. He added that the coroner's office confirmed the chemicals were detected in his son's blood and urine.

Sanders warns the bath salts are far more dangerous than some of their names imply.

"I think everybody is taking this extremely lightly. As much as we outlawed it in Louisiana, all these kids cross over to Mississippi and buy whatever they want," he said.

A small packet of the chemicals typically costs as little as $20.

In northern Mississippi's Itawamba County, Sheriff Chris Dickinson said his office has handled about 30 encounters with bath salt users in the past two months alone. He said the problem grew last year in his rural area after a Mississippi law began restricting the sale of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in making methamphetamine.

Dickinson said most of the bath salt users there have been meth addicts and can be dangerous when using them.

"We had a deputy injured a week ago. They were fighting with a guy who thought they were two devils. That's what makes this drug so dangerous," he said.

But Dickinson said the chemicals are legal for now, leaving him no choice but to slap users with a charge of disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.

Kentucky state lawmaker John Tilley said he's moving to block the drug's sale there, preparing a bill for consideration when his legislature convenes shortly. Angry that the powders can be bought legally, he said: "If my 12-year-old can go in a store and buy it, that concerns me."

College student files suit for $1.8M saying Las Vegas hooker didn't spend enough time with him

05:13 Jan 22 2011
Times Read: 785

A New York college student who claims a Las Vegas hooker did not spend enough time making him happy has sued her escort service for $1.8 million.

Unhappy customer Hubert Blackman said he was traumatized by the "tragic event," especially when he called cops and they threatened to bust him, the Las Vegas Sun reported Thursday.

"I also would like to get my $275 payment back and a $1.8 million verdict for the tragic event that happened," Blackman said in the suit filed in Manhattan Federal Court, the paper said.

Blackman was staying at the Stratosphere on Dec. 17 when he called Las Vegas Exclusive Personals to hire a stripper.

Blackman said the woman performed a lap dance for $155 and a sex act for another $120.

Instead of staying for the agreed-upon one hour, she left after just 30 minutes.

The hapless tourist called to demand some of his money back.

Then he called cops, who told him he could face arrest because prostitution is illegal in Sin City.

Blackman told the newspaper the stripper solicited the sex act and he was unaware prostitution was illegal in Vegas.

I am beginning to notice a disturbing trend.....

07:27 Jan 12 2011
Times Read: 900

And I have to say, I don't like it. What's more, it is disppointing the living fuck outta me.

I have been noticing a great many of my favorite journals with "Private Entries" all of the sudden.

I read Imagesinwords

I read Indulgence, and her alter ego, Carnelian mist

I read LadyKrystalynDarkstar

Aside from the aforementioned private entries suddenly, I also noticed quite a few who said that they were writing entries, then getting random strangers wanting to know who they were talking about, if it was them yadda yadda yadda.....so they either deleted the entries, or privated them.

FUCK 'EM.

Seriously, people. We have journals for the sole purpose of writing in them. If someone were to come along and tell you what you could and could not write in said journal, ever' last one of you would be up in arms, yelling freedom of speech, etc.

So can you please tell me what is the difference between a complete stranger editing your thoughts around here, and you doing it yourself? I mean really. I read alot of people's journals because I like the way they think, the way they express themselves. I do the same thing. I don't write in here to get approval, although the well placed comments I get from some of you have not only made my day, but given me fresh viewpoints on alot of things.

WRITE WHAT YOU WANT TO, WHAT YOU FEEL, AND WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY.

If some fucktard comes along and wants to know anything about said entry, and you do not feel the need to divulge anything further, TELL THEM SO.

If someone comes along and wants to start shit or drama or whatever, and you have no wish to be a part of it, either politely tell them to move along, or unpolitely tell them to fuck off.

But please, for the sake of all that is holy, PLEASE don't start censoring yourself and the way you write. I am asking this as a fellow journaler, and as someone who gets a great deal of pleasure form reading your journals myself.

Believe me when I tell you, self censoring is every bit as bad as letting someone else do it. Cause in the end, they're just one and the same.

/end rant.

I assure you, my private entries are merely bookmarks to different sites and things I want to buy. Stuff that isn't for anyone else to see. I can even print screens if people want to see it :P They can match up the dates and times they can see them privated. Where ever there are private entries in my journal- there are *always* notes for myself. Never VR related. I've never been shy about telling people what I think. But I have never used my journal for shock-value. I don't want readers like that.

My entries are private because people would wonder why the hell I have links to Land's End, greeting card companies, and Random House out of the blue :)

I'm not too shy to say what I think nor ashamed of my words (not that my stuff is worth reading) lol

But as a lot of folks like to pour their troubles out in words to get them off their minds and if they involved friends here on VR, I can see making that entry private, it's for their emotional release not to hurt a friend's feelings.

But I do think some folks use that private entry thing just to drive the rest of us readers nuts wondering what's up! :p

I private a lot of my entries because, like Images, they mean nothing to anyone but me. Some of my entries are things that I've gone through here or going through, and they don't need to be public. Some are things I've copied and pasted from other sites or even other members, and again don't need to be public.

I pretty much tell it like it is in my journal entries as most of you all know.

The people who read into things that I write or anyone writes for that matter need to take a check on themselves. I used to do that A LOT but now, even though I still might think it's about me, I just turn away. It's not worth getting involved in these petty drama wars. They are hurtful and not needed.

From the series "Andromeda"

"You can't outrun Death forever,

But you can make the bastard work for it."

Scott recently bought us the entire series on dvd. I must say, I don't know what is more fun, watching the damn thing, or watching him watching it.

Funny thing is, I can remember when Gene Roddenberry died. October 24, 1991. And how, you may ask, can I remember that? Because they had the funeral in Cairo, Georgia, home of the Roddenberry canning plant, and where alot of his family resided. And I happened to be working at the Comfort Inn when they all came down for the funeral. It was hard, and I remember my dad being quite shook up, because he was a HUGE fan, and by proxy so was I.

So, watching Andromeda is bittersweet, knowing that Majel, who has also since passed on, made it a personal project of hers to take her MBR production company and finish so many of Gene's notes into actual projects, like Andromeda. And to realize that it was shot where I now live, in British Columbia, Canada.

And I get a huge chuckle out of alot of the opening quotes. Like that one above, and this one:

"Requested:

One Mark V ECM unit, 1000 km of

Fullerene cable, one low-yield nuclear warhead.

Purpose:

Surprise party for a foreign dignitary."

Anne Francis Dies Aged 80 After Battle With Cancer

ANNE FRANCIS, the American actress and star of the 1950's science fiction movie 'Forbidden Planet', has died at a nursing home in Santa Barbara, California, aged 80, reports the Press Association. Francis, who also appeared as the eponymous 'Honey West' in the US crime drama series, passed away on Sunday (1st January 2011).

Francis' daughter Jane Uemura confirmed that her mother died of complications of pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed with the disease back in 2007. She had undergone surgery and chemotherapy between 2007 and 2008 and kept fans updated on her progress via her official website. Throughout her career, the actress had starred alongside SPENCER TRACY, PAUL NEWMAN, GLENN FORD, and the recently deceased LESLIE NIELSEN. In 'Honey West', Francis played a private detective who was regarded as being the 'female James Bond', and her performances over the series' 30 episodes won Francis an EMMY AWARD nomination. During an interview in 1999 the actress recalled, "A lot of people speak to me about Honey West. The character made young women think there was more they could reach for. It encouraged a lot of people."

Francis is survived by her two daughters Jane and Maggie, as well as her one grandson.
